Related Services

New Story schools offer a number of related services including:

Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA Consulting)

ABA is a behavioral support designed to monitor a child’s social behavior in a particular environment to determine which factors are influencing that behavior in order to bring positive change in social environments.  New Story provides ABA support services in its schools, outside of school hours and/or within the home setting.

Speech Therapy

Our speech therapists help develop, restore and improve the child’s communication skills through spoken language and/or through alternative communication methods.  Speech-language therapists can help children with autism improve their general  ability to effectively communicate and interact with others as well as develop thier speech and language skills. These therapists may teach non-verbal ways of communicating and may improve social skills that involve communicating with others. By enhancing their communication skills your child will develop a fluent and fluid means of conversation.

Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapists help children develop, restore and maintain fine motor and self-care skills.  Services include individualized treatments to improve the child’s independence by strengthening their ability to perform academic skills including writing and gross motor planning.

Physical Therapy

Our physical therapists help children develop, restore and maintain optimal gross motor functionality.  We focus on improved strength, balance and coordination to enhance the child’s motor skills.  Additionally, we design and implement gym, fitness and yoga activities to enhance peer interactions.

Nursing Services

Our dedicated school nurses help children maintain optimal health while in school. Nurses administer medication, monitor medical conditions and equipment and perform basic medical services during the course of the school day.  Additionally, our nurses assess emergent medical conditions and ensure that all necessary medical services are performed in a timely manner.

If a child requires one-on-one nursing services we are able to coordinate with your district.

Behavorial Support Staff (BSS)

The Behavioral Support Staff (BSS) at New Story is responsible for assisting their assigned student with IEP implementation, focusing on academic & behavioral/therapeutic goals, self-care activities (i.e. toilet training, meal time preparation, etc.) as well as behavior management.

Counseling

New Story schools offer counseling services to students who need extra guidance and support in their everyday lives.  We offer individual and group counseling sessions that assess the needs of each student and work to oversee therapeutic relationships between staff and the students.  Our counselors are on hand to develop and update behavior/treatment plans as the student progresses.

Crisis Intervention

The crisis intervention specialist is responsible for assisting students with behavior management issues.  We work to provide therapeutic behavioral interventions as indicated in the treatment/crisis plan.  Our crisis intervention specialists utilize safe crisis management techniques and document all treatments appropriately.

Extended School Year (ESY)

Extended School Year (ESY) services are special education and related services provided to students with disabilities beyond the 180-day school year.  Each ESY program is uniquely designed for the individual student.  The student's IEP team will determine the specific goals that each student will work on during the ESY program.  The student's goals could range from academic areas such as math and reading; to daily living skills like hygiene and personal safety skills.  Students who have prescribed time for related services (such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, and counseling) that are utilized during the school year are also eligible to receive related services during the ESY program.
